3 Ways to Make Writing a Little Easier … without Lowering Your Standards

Let's just put it right on the table: Writing worthwhile content is hard.

Coming up with strong ideas. Blending in business strategy without looking like a creepy saleshole. Remembering all of the strategies and techniques you learn on Copyblogger. Getting to work consistently. Anyone who tells you it's supposed to be easy is delusional or trying to con you.

If you find content marketing difficult, consider that boring people don't wrestle with creative expression. There's never a shortage of dull content created by bored writers to drive mediocre results.

You, on the other hand, are a content marketing Mandalorian. What does that mean?

Keep reading to find out and discover three ways that a content marketing Mandalorian can keep their standards high … without quite as many merciless Imperial assassins or giant spiders.

How to Build an Audience From Scratch in 2021

Once you have a minimum viable audience (MVA), the audience starts to build itself. That doesn't mean the work of filling the top of your funnel is done, but it does mean that you have some momentum and a head of steam to help keep you growing.

But how do you get that momentum going in the first place? Especially when there is so much content out there already, which can make it feel like such an immense challenge just to get noticed?

To be clear: there's no silver bullet in this episode of 7-Figure Small. But if you want to hear more about the fundamental truths of audience-building with special guest Sonia Simone, you'll enjoy this conversation about what's working in 2021.

Try This Ridiculous (but Effective) Tip to Start Writing When You're Blocked

You're going to think what I'm about to share is ridiculous. But it's a practice that really works, so rather than quickly dismiss it, consider giving this simple technique a try.

When I'm not quite sure what I want to say, or how to best express an idea, I type out the word "something" at least three times.

The first thing this does is initiate a writing rhythm. If it's time to write, I better start writing ... something ... which is better than writing nothing.

Next, I can create a rough template made up of "somethings." I'll repeatedly type "something" to create placeholders for subheads, paragraphs, and bullet points. With this structure in place, the task of writing becomes less intimidating.

Finally, I get tired of looking at the word "something" and begin replacing sections with my message. You don't have to write from the beginning of your content outline, either. It's helpful to start with whatever first comes to mind.

Once you have a draft, you're rolling. To stay focused on serving your audience throughout your text, ask yourself:

How does this content solve a problem or fulfill a desire?

You elevate the quality of your content when you fine-tune your original thoughts until you have a precise, incredibly useful presentation.
