Hey everyone,
Tim here. Happy Friday.
Let's get right to it.
1. Metaphor, Simile, and Analogy: What's the Difference?
While all three are closely related, it's smart to understand the differences. The distinctions among metaphors, similes, and analogies will also help underscore why you may want to use one and not the other in certain situations.
2. Google is Offering Upgraded GMB Profiles with a "Google Guaranteed Badge" for $50 a Month
This is very big news in the world of online local business marketing.
If anyone reading this owns a local business, you will know how valuable it can be to have your Google My Business (GMB) listing, at the top of the search rankings. Making it in the top three is what we call making it in the local pack. Google announced plans to monetize their local business directory by selling premier memberships to small businesses in exchange for a "Google Guaranteed" badge on your profile.
I recommend you take a few minutes to read this article. This will have big implications in the world of local search.
3. How to Monetize a Personal Brand
This week, I created a video that discusses the 7 strategies you can use to monetize your personal brand or your small business. I give a detailed analysis of the pros and cons of each of these strategies, as well as talk to you about how profitable and/or risky each strategy can be.
Keep in mind, it's not always appropriate to monetize your brand. It may require some more audience building and some more time to build trust and add value to your tribe.
Be patient. The revenues will come.
4. How to Write a Landing Page for "Problem Aware" Visitors
All the optimizing in the world can't fix a landing page that doesn't match your visitor's expectations.
This high level article breaks down all the barriers that get in the way of converting your web traffic into sales, subscribers, and customers. One of the first steps is identifying the problem your user is experiencing, and finding ways to properly align your copy to match the solution. It's worth the read.
5. How to Write a Blog Post that 10X's Your Traffic and Conversions
It's becoming harder and harder to get your content to the top of the search engines. The general tactic is to write something that is "bigger, badder, and more robust" than what is currently out there.
The problem is that we are creating search results full of web pages that are 8000 words long when the ideal answer could probably be written in 1000 words.
How much longer can we play this game of 1 upping each other?
In this article, Brendan Hufford delivers a practical and straight forward approach to creating content that is unique, rich, and valuable. It's a sure fire solution to being found.
Closing Thoughts
Times are changing.
Internally, we've been having lots of helpful and creative conversations about what it means to be a "content marketer." For the last decade, Copyblogger has been teaching future marketers the skills required to grow their companies. We were founded on the backbone of a few simple principles.
- Great writing
- Great headlines
- Great story
- Great emails
These tactics are and will always remain part of what we teach at Copyblogger. Yet, the times are changing. Automation, algorithms, segmentation, and A.I. are here. We need to be mindful of these changes and challenge ourselves to learn the new skills required to keep up with the times, even if this make us uncomfortable.
Progress waits for no one. Don't be afraid to push yourself. It's critical that you stay relevant.
Stay focused.
Talk to you next week.
